African Democratic Congress (ADC), has declared that it has not commence any discussions with any aspirant for 2027 just as it does not have favourite aspirants or candidates.
The coalition specifically said that nobody has ever had any conversation about who will be the party’s flag bearer, stressing that it strongly believes that it too early in the day. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, who stated these at the third plenary session of the Northern Political Consultative Group, in Abuja, on Saturday, said that the focus of the coalition for now is to build a political party that is strong enough to deliver on the mission that its members have set for themselves.
Abdullahi said; “We have not entered into any discussions about who will emerge as our flagbearer. We don’t have any favourite aspirants or candidates. We are not having any conversation at the moment”.
This was as the ADC said that the intimidation and harassment by the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government has prevented some serving State governors from openly declaring for the coalition.
ADC pointedly said that it is aware of what the Federal Government is doing to the governors thereby making it difficult for any of them to cross over for now, adding that even those who were unable to cross to the ruling party are endorsing their presidential candidate.
Abdullahi while speaking on the theme; “Peace and social cohesion: A panacea to challenges of the North”, however, said that the coalition is not moved by such harassment as the concerned governors will move at the appropriate time.
In the words of Abdullahi; “What you are seeing is a conspiracy against the Nigerian people. The ADC welcomes everybody. We are convinced that we are a movement that has the backing of the majority of Nigerians who are not happy with the direction this country is going”.
Speaking in turn, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, who is also a member of the coalition, said the ADC would rally round anyone who wins its presidential ticket.
According to Lawal; “The ADC as a political party is a party that is founded on democratic principles. We are going to conduct congresses and conventions to elect our representatives at the election.
“And whoever emerges—be it North, South, Central, West—whoever emerges at either the congresses or at the convention, ADC will support it, and the Northern Political Consultative Group will support that decision”.
The coalition ADC has vowed to use every lawful means to remove President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from office in 2027.
