A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday rejected an application filed by former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido which sought to stop the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its scheduled National Convention scheduled to hold on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
Lamido, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, had in a motion ex parte, moved by his lawyer, Jephthah Njikonye, SAN, urged the court to grant him an interim order pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The court presided over by Justice Peter Lifu, ordered the PDP and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who are listed as defendants in the suit to be put on notice to show cause why Lamido reliefs should not be granted.
Lamido, who is the plaintiff in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2299/2025, listed the PDP and INEC as the 1st and 2nd defendants respectively.
Lamido approached the court on the grounds of dissatisfaction with the way and manner the process leading to the convention was being organised.
The former Governor of Jigawa State had in the suit, prayed the court to restrain INEC from supervising, aiding, or monitoring the convention to prevent it from receiving any legal recognition.
Lamido claimed that he was unlawfully denied the nomination form to contest for the position of national chairman of the PDP at the convention and also alleged that the PDP failed to comply with its own constitution and guidelines in organising the exercise.
He particularly alleged that the PDP did not provide equal opportunities for all eligible members, including himself, to contest.
Lamido therefore, sought a mandatory injunction compelling the party to make the nomination form for national chairman available to him.
He also prayed the court grant him an order stopping INEC from recognising or monitoring any convention except he was allowed to contest.
