Why Late Ahmed Gulak Was In Imo – DSP Omo-Agege Reveals
The late Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ahmed Gulak, who was shot dead by gunmen in Owerri, Imo State on Sunday was on a national assignment, Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege has revealed.
Omo-Agege, who is also the Chairman of the National Assembly Constitution Review Committee, said that Gulak, who until his death was a legal practitioner and was in Owerri as one of the consultants for the zonal public hearing on constitution review for the South East geo-political zone.
Omo-Agege, who stated these in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yomi Odunuga, described the assassination of Gulak as wicked, dastardly, callous and barbaric.
He called on security operatives to fish out the perpetrators and their sponsors, adding that there was no justifiable reason for the murderous act by the evil men behind Gulak’s death.
Omo-Agege said; “I call on the police and other security agencies to fish out the assailants and their sponsors to face the full wrath of the law.
“This is the least we owe the late Gulak. And it will serve as a deterrent to others. Security agencies should immediately restore law and order in the South East and other parts of the country so that the situation does not escalate.
“I also call for restraints on the part of those irked by the dastardly act. Reprisal attacks would only exacerbate the already tensed situation,” he said
Omo-Agege while commiserating with his family as well as the government and people of Adamawa State over the unfortunate incident, noted that the deceased would be greatly missed as he gave his all for the service of his country.
The Deputy Senate President “The death of Rt. Hon. Ahmed Gulak was a monumental tragedy that has shaken us as members of the Senate Constitution Review Committee to our bone marrow. As a patriotic Nigerian, he died in national service”.
The late Gulak was shot dead by gunmen around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Sam Mbakwe Airport road in Owerri on Sunday morning while going for his flight.
