The family of late former Nigerian President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari, has announced the death of his last surviving wife, Hajiya Sutura Shehu Shagari.
Family sources disclosed that Hajiya Sutura passed away on Monday, 10th November 2025, at the age of 89.
Confirmation of the sad news came from the late president’s eldest son, Captain Bala Shagari, who also serves as the Sarkin Mafaran Shagari.
According to a statement signed by Captain Bala, the late President’s wife died around 3 p.m. after a prolonged illness.
Captain Bala described his late mother as “an embodiment of grace, humility, and quiet strength who lived a life with dignity.”
Known for her calm disposition, humility, and devotion to family, those close to late Hajiya Sutura said she stood by her husband through his political journey.
Many also described her as a symbol of unity and peace within the Shagari family even after his death.
Insider sources said her passing marks the end of an era for the family of Nigeria’s first executive President.
