Wike Abandoned Me Despite Role I Played In His Political Career – Mbu

A retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Joseph Mbu, has said that but, for the role he played in the 2014-2015 political crisis in Rivers State, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike would not have become Governor of the state.

Mbu, however expressed utter dismay and disappointment over what he described as the lack of recognition by Wike after becoming the governor of Rivers State.

The retired AIG of Police, whose role during the 2014–2015 political crisis in Rivers State was described as controversial and was eventually retired by the Police Service Commission (PSC), said that in spite of his efforts that gave rise to Wike, he was not in any way appreciated.

In the words of Mbu; “Without me, he would not have become Governor. Because I knew where to hit the government power. Wike later ignored me when I reached out to him while I was contesting my retirement”.

Commenting on the present political crisis in Rivers State between Governor Fubara and Wike, the retired police officer said that he would have intervened but was disappointed when his calls were not answered.

Mbu however, said that having watched Governor Fubura, and in spite of the fact that he does not know him, he can see that he is a thorough and sound person that if focused.

Following the controversy over the role he played in the 2014-2015 election in Rivers State, the Police Service Commission retired AIG Joseph Mbu.

However, Mub approached the National Industrial Court and challenged his compulsory retirement when he was yet to attain the age of 60.

The National Industrial Court presided over by Osatohanmwen ObasekiOsaghae therefore ordered the Police Service Commission to pay Mbu N40 million as general damages, saying that he was unlawfully retired from service.

Justice Osatohanmwen Obaseki-Osaghae rulked; “I hold that the claimant’s premature retirement through a press release on July 2, 2016, is unlawful, unconstitutional, null and void, and of no effect”.

The court in addition setting aside the retirement, declared that the claimant remained an officer of the Nigeria Police Force until he attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 on May 10, 2018.
