Wike-Fubara’s Rofo-Rofo Fight Claims Four More Rivers Commissioners

BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – Amid the worsening political crisis in Rivers State, the number of commissioners that have now quit from the cabinet of Governor Siminalayi Fubara has risen to five as of Thursday, December 14, 2023.

Those who have so far announced their exit from the State Executive Council are the Commissioner for Works and a staunch loyalist of former Governor Nyesom Wike, Dr George-Kelly Alabo; the Commissioner for Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Mrs Inime Chinwenwo-Aguma; Commissioner for Finance, Isaac Kamalu; and Commissioner for Special Duties, Emeka Woke.

The quartet made public their decision to bid Fubara’s cabinet farewell hours after Professor Zacchaeus Adangor (SAN), resigned from his position as the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General earlier on Thursday.

In the letter dated December 14 and addressed to the governor through the Secretary to the State Government, Alabo, who served as Wike’s Works Commissioner, said he resigned based on the dictates of his conscience.

Alabo, in the letter titled; “Resignation as Honourable Commissioner For Works, Rivers State”, further wrote; “My decision to resign is anchored on my conscience, personal philosophy, and professional ethics. This decision was taken after deep introspection.”

Meanwhile, all the former Commissioners had in their respective letters, appreciated the governor for the opportunity to serve the State.

With the bitter political fight between Governor Fubara, and his estranged godfather, Chief Nyesom Wike, who is the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), insiders hinted that the wave of resignation may not be unconnected with speculations that the governor is already positioning himself relief all those appointed by Wike of their positions as Cabinet members.

The latest development brings to five the number of aides who have decided to part ways with Governor Fubara in deference to their political mentor and former Governor of the State, Nyesom Wike who marked his 56th birthday anniversary on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
