…Asks President Tinubu to sack him as FCT minister

The leadership of the Youth wing of the Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has accused Mr Nyesom Wike, minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), of instigating and manipulating members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, inciting conflicts, and fostering political instability in the State and the wider Niger Delta as a whole.

The PANDEF youth leadership led by its National Youth Leader, Don Ben Donyegha, Assistant National Youth Leader Comrade Mathew Digi, and National Coordinator for Youth Affairs, Hon. Prince Oleh Victor, told journalists at a Press conference on Saturday in Abuja that Wike’s continued arrogance, reckless utterances, and betrayal of those who once supported him are making him a liability to the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.

The group particularly stressed that the recent insults by Wike directed at Niger Delta leaders who visited President Tinubu for peace talks are totally unacceptable, saying that the FCT minister branded them as mere opportunists when, in reality, they have been working to ensure stability in the region.

The PANDEV youths therefore sent a strong warning to President Tinubu, saying that the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, poses a serious threat to his 2027 elections.

This was as the group gave Wike a 48-hour ultimatum with which to publicly apologize for disrespecting Niger Delta leaders.

The PANDEF youth leaders warned that if Wike fails to tender a public apology within 48 hours, they will mobilize and embark on mass action to demand his removal from office.

According to Comrade Mathew Digi; “We will not sit back and allow a man who thrives on conflict to destabilize our region and undermine our leadership. If President Tinubu wants peace and support from the South-South, he must act now”.

The PANDEF youths therefore called on President Tinubu to as a matter of serious national concern, remove the FCT Minister from office, stressing that his divisive politics and disregard for key stakeholders in the Niger Delta and South-South region were exacerbated by alcohol abuse, therefore making him a threat to peace and development in the Niger Delta.

The youth pointedly accused Wike of alienating respected figures, including traditional rulers, elder statesmen, and political allies who were instrumental in his political rise.

The PANDEF youth leaders specifically criticized Wike’s history of public humiliation and verbal attacks against notable Niger Delta figures, including the late elder statesman, Pa Edwin Clark.

In the words of Donyegha; “Wike has been undermining peace efforts, dismissing a recent delegation of Niger Delta leaders as individuals seeking financial gain—a claim they found deeply offensive.

“Wike has been illegally acquiring and selling land in the FCT to finance his political battles. His actions could erode Tinubu’s goodwill in the Niger Delta and South-South regions, which are crucial for securing re-election in 2027,” he said.
