BY CHABERLAIN ODEY, JOS – House of Representatives member representing Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency of Plateau state, Hon Beni Lar has identified the fight against poverty among women and youths as critical and vital for the resuscitation of the national economy and the overall survival of Nigeria as a country.
Hon Lar also tasked women and youths not to get despaired and submit themselves to the cheap job of political thugs who are used and dumped by politicians. Rather, she urged these two vulnerable groups to channel their energies towards productive activities.
Speaking while declaring open a two-week training workshop for women and youths on the innovative subject of “waste to wealth management and production of cosmetics” holding in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Lar called on the participants to make maximum use of the opportunity offered by the training workshop.
Represented by the Chairman of Langtang North Local Government Council, Hon. Joshua Laven, Lar said poverty and unemployment have been the bane of development in the state.
“The fight against poverty”, she noted, “is crucial to our survival, and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) are the answer, and we believe that SMEs can make us and our nation sufficient, it will make women and youths self-sustaining.
“In fighting poverty in Nigeria today”, she said further, “the answer is SME”.
Hon Beni Lar is training over 1050 women and youths in various skills acquisition that include cosmetic production, soap production, among others.
She said that politicians often use women and youths during campaigns and dump them after victory. Accordingly, she urged the people to take advantage of the skills acquisition training to be self reliant and economically independent.
Lar also wants the women and youths to shun all forms of social vices such as prostitution, armed robbery, and other forms of criminality.
