BY BABA AHMED, LAFIA – As workers celebrate May day, Local Government staff in Nasarawa state have appeal to President Muhammadu Buhari to prevail on Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura to pay them their outstanding 12 months’ salary arrears before his exit on May 29.
A letter addressed to President Buhari and signed by Comrade Salihu Eladoga, former State NULGE President on behalf of the workers in the state, said the workers have been subjected to untold hardship and lost confidence in the government.
The letter which was copied all relevant agencies and made available to Forefront News, said the over 12 months’ salary arrears is as a result of percentage payment from 2015 to 2018.
Eladoga faulted Governor Al-makura, who claimed that his administration is not owing any worker in the state.
The petition states in part; “The attention of Local Government workers in the state was also touched by your statement in the media recently; that you are up to date in the payment of workers monthly salaries in this state.

“We viewed such statements as unfair, unjust and a calculated plan to rob local government workers of our rights and privileges”.
“In the light of the above, I wish to place on record vividly that your Government is owing Local Government workers backlog of monthly salaries from 2015 to 2018”.
Eladoga further said that the administration of Al-makura denied workers their welfare and promotion just like their counterparts in other states of the federation.
He said; “It’s worth mentioning here also that since the inception of your Administration in this state (2011-2019), workers were deliberately denied our lawful privileges that we have been enjoying alongside our colleagues in other states of Nigeria and the world over as motivating factors to enhance productivity in every successful organization (1) promotion, (2) Annual increment of salaries (3) Leave and Transport Grant among others”.
