A truly one-of-a-kind talent inside and outside the squared circle, former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) champion, Windham Rotunda, popularly known to wrestling fans as Bray Wyatt, has unexpectedly passed away at the age of 36, according to WWE executive Paul “Triple H” Levesque.

The WWE’s Chief Content Officer Triple H tweeted; “Just received a call from WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda who informed us of the tragic news that our WWE family member for life Windham Rotunda – also known as Bray Wyatt – unexpectedly passed earlier today.”

Levesque further said Thursday on X/Twitter. “Our thoughts are with his family and we ask that everyone respect their privacy at this time.”

The cause of his death has not been released. Bray Wyatt, also known as “The Fiend” and Husky Harris during his time with the sports entertainment company, had returned to large fanfare in late 2022 and worked until suddenly no longer being on WWE programs weeks before its signature event, WrestleMania.

Before his professional wrestling career, Rotunda played college football at Troy University. He is the son of Mike Rotunda, himself a former WWF/E superstar most well known as IRS, as well as the brother of former WWE superstar Bo Dallas.

His death follows one day after the announcement of pro wrestling legend Terry Funk’s passing with an outpouring of support and mourning came from current and former members of the WWE.

“I’m heartbroken over the news of Bray Wyatt’s passing,” said Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson on X/Twitter. “Always had tremendous respect and love for him and the Rotunda family. Loved his presence, promos, in-ring work, and connection with (WWE) universe. Very unique, cool, and rare character, which is hard to create in our crazy world of pro wrestling.

“Still processing losing the Goat, Terry Funk yesterday, and now Bray today. My love, light, strength & mana to the Rotunda family and Funk family during this tough, heartbreaking time.”

Bray made a name for himself in WWE due to his horror movie-inspired character. A third-generation wrestler, he formed The Wyatt Family in 2012, terrorizing the company as a cult-like figure, alongside Erick Rowan and Luke Harper (who sadly also passed away in 2020).

Often wearing creepy masks designed by Tom Savini and his team, Wyatt captivated audiences with bizarre vignettes and even stranger matches, quickly establishing himself as one of the most beloved superstars on the roster. His horror movie antics were dialed up even further when he became “The Fiend” in 2019, a monstrous alter ego to the Bray Wyatt character.

From his eerie entrances that brought wrestling audiences together in an almost ceremonial fashion to his unforgettable promos and unique wrestling style, the “Eater of Worlds” will go down in history as an all-time great character in the annals of professional wrestling, with many fans considering him the true successor to the Undertaker’s throne of darkness.

The wrestling world has lost a brilliant creative mind and a generational talent on this day, one who had so much more left to give. But he will certainly never, ever be forgotten.

Rest in Peace, Windham Rotunda. – Agency reports
