The Federal Government on Wednesday recalled Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Ambassador Kabiru Bala over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians residing in the former apartheid nation.

This is just as Nigeria announced it pulling out of the World Economic Forum (WEF), on Africa taking place in Cape Town, South Africa from September 4 to 6, 2019 following relations between the two countries over xenophobic attacks that is presently in focus.

Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo was expected to represent Nigeria at the WEF but cancelled Nigeria’s participation.

Similarly, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda and Malawi on Tuesday announced their pulling out of the WEF as a result of the xenophobic attacks on blacks in South Africa.

Presidents Paul Kagame (Rwanda), Felix Tshisekedi (DRC) and Peter Mutharika (Malawi) formally withdrew from the WEF.

The recalling the Nigeria High Commissioner to South Africa, the Federal Government demanded for full compensation for the victims of the xenophobic attacks.

It was gathered that the development is part of the outcome of the meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and the minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama over the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa.

Onyeama had on Tuesday demanded full compensation on attacked Nigerians and destroyed property at a joint news briefing with the South African High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Bobby Moroe.

According to Onyeama; ”There has to be accountability and there has to be the responsibility for compensating all those Nigerians that have suffered loss and we are going to absolutely push forward.”
