Yahaya Bello’s ADC, Security Details In Trouble
- May face disciplinary measures for breaching security rules
For allegedly obstructing operations of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the female police officer who was the aide-de-camp to the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, is currently cooling her feet in Police custody.
According to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the female ADC was arrested alongside other police officers attached to the former governor, and they are being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
It was reliably gathered that the arrests and detention of the affected operatives followed a directive by the Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, on Thursday night for their immediate withdrawal from the 48-year-old former governor.
Police insiders said the officers were arrested following allegations that they may have aided and abetted Bello’s escape from the EFCC operatives who visited his Abuja residence on Wednesday, 17th April 2024 to effect an arrest. The anti-graft agency’s operation was part of an ongoing investigation into the former governor’s alleged misconduct and possible breaches of the law.
One of the insiders hinted thus; “The ADC and the other police details attached to Yahaya Bello have been arrested and detained. They were arrested on the order of the IG, on the suspicion that they aided and abetted the former governor’s escape from the EFCC operatives on Wednesday. Already, the Police authorities have ordered a thorough investigation to determine the extent of the officers’ involvement in the ex-governor evading arrest.
Though the Police authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the arrests, competent sources said the officers could face charges related to obstruction of justice or conspiracy to hinder a law enforcement operation.
Meanwhile, IGP Egbetokun had, on Thursday night, ordered the withdrawal of all police officers attached to Bello. The directive was contained in a police wireless message sighted by Forefront News.
The document read thus; “CB:4001/DOPS/PMF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.48/ 34 X ORDER AND DIRECTIVES X FOLLOWING MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM NIGPOL.
