10th Senate: Bamidele, Ndume, Umahi Take Leadership Positions
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday, at the resumption of plenary after the Eid-el-Kabir break announced Senator Opeyemi Bamidele (APC-Ekiti) as the Majority Leader of the 10th Senate and Senator Ali Mohammed Ndume (APC-Borno) as the Chief Whip.
Similarly, first termer Senator, David Umahi, former governor of Ebonyi State was announced as the Deputy Leader of the Senate.
The Senate adjourned sitting on June 14, 2023 for the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
While announcing what appeared the new leadership of the Senate, Akpabio said: “The All Progressives Congress (APC) caucus of the Senate after consultations, has emerged with their leadership, which will be the fulcrum of commencing other businesses of the chamber.
“I’m happy to announce that by consensus, the Senate Leader is Senator Opeyemi Bamidele. Senator Ali Mohammed Ndume (APC-Borno) will be the Chief Whip of the 10th Senate; Senator David Umahi (APC-Ebonyi), by your consent, will act as the Deputy Leader; and Sen. Lola Ashiru (APC-Kwara) will be the Deputy Chief Whip,” he said.
The minority parties in the Senate are expected to come up with their principal officers in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution and the Senate Standing Rules in order to have a full complement of Senate leadership.
