2023: Automatic Ticket For 14 Lawmakers Excites Edo North APC
BY SEGUN ADEBAYO – It is all excitement for bigwigs of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Edo-North Senatorial district following the State chapter of the party’s decision to give the right of first refusal to the 14-elected Assembly members “denied inauguration by Governor Godwin Obaseki.”
Against this backdrop, a Party chieftain and Convener of ‘Team Alimikhena’, Mr Sunny Ifijen has urged all APC stakeholders and members in Edo-North to support the State leadership’s decision which he described as a ‘welcome development’.
Ifijen, who spoke at a meeting with leaders drawn from Akoko-Edo and Owan East local government areas, said; “This singular decision along with others, has placed the APC in a vantage position to optimize the electoral value of the Tag-Team G-14 members.”
Also speaking in the same vein, the group’s Secretary, Mr Omeiza Ogumah, said “This decisive rationale of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party to grant automatic tickets to the 14 lawmakers is an indication that the APC appreciates loyalty and consistency.
“That is a clear signal for other genuine party men to allow party interest to supersede their personal ambitions.”
In another development, an APC House of Representatives aspirant, Christopher Ojo, says the existing leadership vacuum in the Party ahead of the 2023 general elections is capable of causing collateral damage to its electoral chances in Owan West Local Government Area of Edo State unless something urgent is done.
Giving the warning in a statement to newsmen in Benin, Ojo blamed the absence of visionary leadership for the unnecessary bickering and acrimony among the party faithful in the council area.
According to him; “It is a shame that those that are supposed to be galvanising the people have failed in their responsibilities and this has placed the party in a precarious position going into the 2023 General elections.”
“As I speak, everybody has assumed leadership positions in the council because of the failure of those that have been saddled with the responsibility”, the aspirant lamented.
