Fatal Motor Accident Claims 20 Lives In Bauchi

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – A fatal motor accident involving two commercial vehicles coming from opposite directions has claimed the lives of 20 passengers at Huturu village, 57km along the ever-busy Bauchi–Kano Road.
Reports said the passengers were burnt to ashes while only one person survived with injuries and was rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
According to the Bauchi State Command of Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident occurred at about 1130 hours but was reported at 1138 hours and it took personnel 12 minutes to reach the scene at 1150 hours.
A First Information Report (FIR) from Ganjuwa Station Office of FRSC indicated that two (2) vehicles were involved, a Golf 3 Volkswagen with registration number SHD184YU and a Sharon mini-bus Wagon.
The FIR, which also said the probable cause of the accident was a Speed Limit Violation (SPV), noted that the 20 people killed in the accident comprised Eleven (11) Male Adults; Five (5) Female Adults; One (1) Male Child; and Three (3) Female Children.
It said the total number of passengers involved in both vehicles was 21, comprising 12 Male Adults; 5 Female Adults; One (1) Male Child; and Three (3) Female Children.
Forefront correspondent gathered that while the FRSC personnel took the injured victim to Kafin Madaki General Hospital for treatment, all the burnt corpses were given a mass burial at Huturu Village.
The rescue operation was undertaken by FRSC personnel in Ganjuwa Local Government Area Station; Nigeria Police Force personnel in Kafin Madaki Division as well as both State and Airport Fire Services as stated by DRC KM Chadi STO in Ganjuwa.
