Ahead of the 2023 General Elections, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday, May 2, 2022 unveiled the identity of his successor, saying it would “the person that Nigerians elect.”

This was as he also assured of the commitment of his administration to free, fair and transparent process as well as the conduct of the 2023 General Elections.

President Buhari last year, during an interview he granted a television station, said he was not concerned about the person who would succeed him.

He also said that even though he had a preferred candidate, he was not ready to mention the person so that the candidate may not be eliminated.

Speaking shortly after observing the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Mambilla Barrack parade ground, Abuja, the President declared that he would like to hand over to “the person that Nigerians elect.”

President Buhari used the occasion to task heads of military and other security agencies in the country to go after terrorists and eliminate them just as he expressed the commitment of his administration towards making the country safe for Nigerians.

In his words; “Farmers must be assured of their safety as they returned to the farms, thereby securing the country’s food production.

“We’ll continue to make the environment secure, especially when the rainy season is coming, so that farmers can go back to their farms and we wouldn’t have problem of food security.

“Heads of the services; Army, Navy, Air Force, the Inspector-General of Police and so on, are very much aware of the situation.

It’s their duties to know where the terrorists are and eliminate them,” the President said.

Other dignitaries that observed the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the Mambilla Barrack parade ground, Abuja alongside with President Buhari, included the National Security Adviser, Major General Babagana Munguno (retd), the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar; the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba; former minister of interior, Lt.
