2023 Presidential Ambition: Ask Speculators Not Me – Sen Lawan
BY VICTOR BUORO – Senate President Ahmad Lawan says all burning questions about his presidential ambition come 2023 general elections should be directed to speculators in the Nigerian political space.
He however said it is only God and not any man that can determine the possibility of his joining the presidential race on the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.
According to him, all the reports about the so-called pressure mounted on him to contest the presidency remain in the speculative realm for now.
Speaking when some Abuja residents paid the Sallah homage to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa to mark the Eid-el-Fitr, the Senate president warned that politicians should shun the negative tendencies of overheating the polity ahead of next year’s general election.
He said it is important to have a peaceful and stable country first before any politician could be sure of having a government in place through an election.
Clearly parrying questions on issues around his much-touted presidential ambition, Senator Lawan said; “I thought you were going to ask me about what we want to do in 2022. We passed the budget for 2022, a budget for consolidation of what we have been able to achieve in 2020, when we had an implementation of 100 per cent.
“2022 has just finished, another 100 per cent implementation of budget and we’re looking forward to ensure that the 2022 budget is also implemented by 100 per cent.
“If we stabilise our economy, we stabilise our country, then people can contest.”
The Senate President however gave a veil response to the speculated aspiration insisting that; “for now everything is speculative and I believe that God, in His infinite mercy, will show us the way.”
