2023 Elections: Ebonyi Voters ‘ll Shun Peter Obi For Tinubu – Umahi
BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM – Governor David Umahi has dared Ohanaeze Ndigbo that the people of Ebonyi state will have no regrets voting massively for the presidential candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, come 2023 general elections.
According to him, credible voters in the state are ready and determined to shun the Labour Party (LP)’s candidate, Peter Obi, in order to make an important statement for the ‘Ebonyi agenda’ during next year’s polls.
Though currently adjudged the most popular presidential candidate from the region and a crowd puller among ordinary Nigerians, especially on social media, Governor Umahi pointedly said; “We will not vote for Labour Party, we will only vote for APC.”
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of five new Commissioners and two Special Assistants on Monday, the governor said; “Our vote is for APC and not for the Labour Party. Our agenda is Ebonyi agenda. We will vote for our presidential candidate in the person of Tinubu.
“The plan is that we must strive to liberate Ebonyi State and that is our agenda.”
Governor Umahi’s outburts may not be unconnected with his recent unkind words for the South-East zone’s delegates to the just-concluded APC presidential primaries, where he accused them of trading their votes for monetary gains instead of collective regional interest.
As a contestant in the race won by the former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, the Ebonyi State Chief Executive could only amass a paltry 38 votes, the highest by any South East aspirant.
Looking back at the development, he said the primary outcome has made him lose confidence in the apex Igbo sociopolitical organization, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.
Not ready to hide his feelings, a bitter Governor Umahi, who was full of praises for the Ebonyi people, said; “You (Ebonyi delegates) have made yourselves reference points of steadfastness in the country and when people are seeking trustworthy people, they will come for you.
“I have lost total confidence in the leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo socio-cultural organization and will openly confront anyone who challenges the Ebonyi agenda.”
