2023: Lawmaker Namdas Renews Guber Ambition

BY AUSTIN AJAYI, YOLA – With the 2023 general elections still two years away, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Army, Hon Abdulrazaq Namdas is already at the starting block warming up to have a go at the gubernatorial seat in Adamawa State.

Namdas, who is the member representing Toungo, Jada, Mayo-Belwa and Ganye Federal constituency, has publicly indicated his intention to seek All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket come 2023.

To make good his aspiration, the lawmaker said robust consultations with stakeholders are ongoing to enable him take an informed decision on the governorship contest in the North east state.

Declaring interest in the coveted seat while chatting with newsmen during his 52nd birthday celebration on Friday, January 1, 2021, Namdas said he was most qualified to aspire for the State Chief Executive office having ran as a Deputy Governorship candidate about 10 years ago.

According to Namdas, as the running mate to Engineer Markus Gundiri in 2011, they finished as the first runner up in the State gubernatorial election.

The lawmaker however said given the renewed spirit of cooperation within the party, APC is sure of getting back to winning ways and emerging victorious come 2023.

In his remarks, the North East Vice Chairman, Caretaker Committee of APC, Professor Mamman Tahir congratulated Namdas for another milestone birthday celebrations.

while acknowledging Namdas’ interest in the gubernatorial race, Prof Tahir assured that the party will provide a level playing field for all members aspiring to contest elective positions without recourse to any so-called zoning arrangements.

He expressed optimism that having reconciled all interest groups and aggrieved members in the State, APC is set on the path victory come 2023.

For the APC Caretaker Committee Chairman in the State, Ibrahim Bilal, he was full of commendation for Namdas’ role in strengthening democracy in Nigeria.

Bilal described Namdas a great politician and legislator who has paid his dues towards the development of society both at state and national levels.

Also speaking at the occasion, an APC stalwart in Adamawa State and Sarkin Matasa of Adamawa, Barrister Aliyu Wakili Boya applauded Namdas for being an active part of the State’s socio economic development, noting that this has endeared him to the people.

Boya said as a goal getter and grassroots politician, Namdas has the massive appeal and followership to realise his aspiration of leading the state and will surely enjoy support from the youth populace.
