BY AHMED TUKUR LAFIA – For their acclaimed selfless contributions to nation-building, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and Barrister Labaran Magaji Matawalle Toto, may already be enjoying mileage as candidates for the 2023 general elections.
Courtesy of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Toto Local Government Area chapter of Nasarawa state, both personalities have been unanimously adopted by chapter members to run for the governorship and Nasarawa West Senatorial seats respectively.
In a voice vote, the teachers endorsed Governor Sule as their sole candidate for 2023 gubernatorial poll while also queuing behind Matawalle to take a shot at the Nasarawa West senatorial district, currently occupied by former Governor Abdullahi Adamu in the nation’s upper legislative chamber.
The NUT Chapter chairman, Comrade Salihu Idris, said the decision was taken by Union members after a careful analysis of their contributions to nation-building as well as peace and development in Nasarawa State.
Consequently, Comrade Idris said the Union will mobilize parents and its members to ensure the success of Governor Sule and Barrister Matawalle come 2023 elections.
He stated that as trainers of tomorrow’s leaders, the teachers have seen the potential of good and caring leaders in the two gentlemen that should give the state and the zone the required visionary and a selfless representation going forward.
Comrade Idris promised that the union will mobilize both human and financial resources to ensure the governor’s return ticket aspiration and that of Matawalle readily come to fruition for a better Nasarawa state.
The union leader appealed to other groups and individuals in the state to plead with Matawalle to consider the request by many groups for him to run for the seat.
“We, as teachers, will go all out to appeal to parents and other groups to give A. A. Sule and Matawalle support during the 2023 elections”
Responding, Matawalle said all hands must be on deck to ensure the rapid development of the state.
He called on all people of goodwill to join hands in ensuring that the present administration in the state succeeds while also giving those at the helm of affairs support to move the state forward.
The lawyer cum politician however said he is consulting widely on the 2023 senatorial district contest and will soon make his decision public.
