2023 Polls: Deputy Gov Leads Resignation Galore In Sokoto
- 10 Commissioners, SSG, Chief of Staff also quit, bid Gov Tambuwal farewell
It is a gale of high-profile resignation by political office holders and appointees in Sokoto State with the Deputy Governor, Manir Muhammad Dan Iya leading the way.
Already, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal has accepted Iya’s resignation as well as that of twelve other key portfolio holders in the administration.
Competent sources said the decision is in compliance with the Electoral Act, 2022 which “provides that political appointees and other public servants aspiring for political offices in the 2023 General Elections are to resign their appointments 30 days before the conduct of primary elections in respect of the specific posts they are aspiring for.”
Aside from the Deputy Governor, who was also overseeing the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, others featuring on the list of those that have bade farewell to the Tambuwal-led administration, less than 13 months to its tenure expiration, are the Commissioners in Ministries of Finance, Environment, Youths and Sports, Lands and Housing; as well as Careers and Security.
They are Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki, Hon. Sagir Bafarawa, Hon. Bashir Gorau, Hon. Aminu Bala Bodinga and Col. Garba Moyi (rtd) respectively.
Others that have also quit their positions include Commissioners of Commerce, Works, Water Resources, Solid Minerals and Religious Affairs: Hon. Bashir Gidado, Hon. Salihu Maidaji, Hon. Shuaibu Gwanda Gobir, Hon. Abubakar Maikudi Ahmad and Hon. Abdullahi Maigwandu correspondingly.
Also not left out are the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mallam Sa’idu Umar, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mukhtar Umar Magori.
