As the nation’s political scene continues to boom with activities ahead of the 2023 general elections, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello says his open declaration of interest in the presidency will come full swing after the All Progressives Congress (APC) is done holding its national convention.

With the ruling party scheduled to hold its national convention on Saturday, February 26, 2022, the governor hinted that a lot would depend on the likely outcome of the exercise going forward.

Interestingly, Governor Bello’s step-back decision is coming on the heels of reports that his namesake and Niger State counterpart, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, has endorsed the presidential ambition of the APC National Leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu

Addressing journalists in Lokoja, the Kogi state capital on Wednesday, Governor Bello said being the platform that brought him to power as the State Chief Executive, the APC must hold its national convention before his camp can categorically take a stand on which position that would be suitable to seek the party’s ticket.

He stated thus; “We are looking forward to the convention of our great party and by the grace of God, I will declare. But we must have a platform to run on and that is the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“The party has been built solidly under the leadership of Governor Mai Mala Buni. They have done a great job, we shall conclude the rest in our convention.

“By the mandate and calling of Nigerians, Nigerian youths and women and people all over the world that are calling me to run and build on the achievements of President Muhammadu Buhari, I will surely answer them immediately after our convention, as the case may be.”

Governor Bello, who applauded the Party’s Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) led by the governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni for their efforts towards hosting the convention, said the ruling APC will come out stronger and more virile after the national convention.
