2024: Emilokan Slogan Will Not Work In Edo State – Obaseki
Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State on Thursday took on his deputy, Comrade Phili Shaibu, saying that the ‘Emilokan’ slogan will not work during the 2024 governorship election in the state.
Obaseki, who stated this when he received in audience, leaders of Edo South Senatorial District at the Government House, noted with concern that the deputy governor who has been part of a government was the same person plotting to destabilise the same government, stressing that such a strategy is strange to the people of the state.
The phrase ‘Emilokan’ was first used by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his contest for the presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which translated to mean, ‘it is my turn’.
Obaseki said that Edo people will not accept ‘Emilokan’ as a strategy in government in the state, adding that the people are not known for that.
In the words of Obaseki; “For us, it is the people that will decide. What has happened in the last few months is strange. Even if you have ambition, this is not the time to express it. The timetable for the election is not yet out.
“I thought we came together and will leave together and let the people say you have done a great job, and they will now make the decision themselves. They are the ones to say that come rain or sunshine, we must continue. You are telling the world one thing and yet doing another.
“You are loyal to your principal and yet you are in Court with your principal. Everybody has the right to be ambitious but, do it the right way,” he counselled.
