The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, Mr Peter Obi, returned from the Vatican where he witnessed the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV and declared that his involvement in the coalition ahead of the 2027 elections is focused on the fight against bad governance, hunger, and poverty and not position.
Obi, who stated this while responding to enquiries with regards to reports of a deal with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to serve as his Vice President for one-term in the upcoming 2027 elections.
This was as it was gathered from multiple sources that the proposal was made earlier this year during a meeting between Atiku and Obi in the United Kingdom during which the former Vice President committed to serving a single four-year term, and that Obi agreed to be the running mate.
It was also gathered that Atiku and Obi have agreed and are now in the process of consulting with their loyalists.
However, Peter Obi, said at an event in Kubwa, Abuja on Monday, during a donation to a school and hospital project, organised by the Anglican Church, said that he is in coalition against bad governance, poverty, and hunger and not concerned about what office to serve.
While Obi did not deny or confirm the alleged deal for a single term with Atiku, stressed that he remains committed to the coalition’s mission.
Obi said; “I have nothing personal against President Tinubu but against bad government, hunger, poverty, unemployment, insecurity among other vices.
“You can make of the report what you want, but I’m in a coalition against bad governance, hunger, and poverty,” he said.
