A 78-year-old man, Moshood Habibu, is currently in the custody of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly hacking his 94-year-old blind brother, Salisu Surakatu, to death over a land dispute.

According to the State Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect, Moshood stormed Surakatu’s house at Kara Ewumi Village, Mowe on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, and macheted him to death following their disagreement over a piece of land.

Oyeyemi told newsmen on Saturday that the Police arrested the suspect the same day after Aminu Tajudeen, said to be the biological son of the deceased, reported the incident at the Mowe Police Division.

The Police spokesperson explained that on interrogation at the station where Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Saminu Akintunde, is the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), “the suspect claimed that the deceased sold a plot from their family land but didn’t give him his own share of the proceeds and that he went there that morning to demand his share which led to a hot argument between them.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect went to the deceased’s house armed with a cutlass, and when he got there, the deceased, who was visually impaired, didn’t know he came with a cutlass.

“While the deceased was asking him to leave his house, he descended heavily on him and macheted him to death.”

Oyeyemi quoted the State Commissioner of Police (CP) Lanre Bankole as directing that the suspect be transferred to the homicide section of the state’s criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation into the matter and prosecution.
