The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abia State chapter has distanced itself from the activities of Don Norman Obinna, who it described as ‘a self-acclaimed chairman’ of the party in the State.
The leadership of the Abia State chapter of the ADC pointedly expressed its unalloyed loyalty and support for the Senator David Mark-led Central Working Committee (CWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ADC.
Obinna, who claimed chairmanship of the Party in the state on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, led a few self-acclaimed State chairmen of the party in declaring support for the suspension of the recognition of the David Mark-led ADC by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The group, at a media briefing in Abuja, announced it’s support for Dumebi Kachukwu-led non-existent NEC of the ADC.
It was gathered that Obinna started laying claim to the chairmanship of the ADC, Abia State chapter following INEC’s announcement which discontinued the recognition of the Mark-led national leadership, citing a Court of Appeal order for a status quo bellum pending the hearing and determination of a motion on notice before a Federal High Court.
However, the Abia State caucus of the APC rose from an emergency meeting on Wednesday, dismissing Obinna’s claim to the Chairmanship of the party as not only illegal, false and misleading, but outrightly mischievous.
A communique issued at the end of the emergency meeting of the Abia State caucus which held at the Party’s State Headquarters in Umuahia, declared that Obinna lacked the authority whatsoever, to speak and or act for the Abia state chapter of the ADC.
The communique read by Chief Uko Nkole, leader of the Caucus reaffirmed Kanu O. Kanu as the Acting State Chairman of the Party, stressing that the claim by Obinna to the party’s leadership was not only unlawful, but an assault on the rule of law.
The ADC caucus, noted that Obinna was on December 3, 2025 restrained by an Abia State High Court from parading himself and acting as the ADC Chairman in the state.
The communique stated; “Obinna’s actions amount to a violation of Party discipline, and contempt of a valid court order. Any meetings, directives, or public engagements conducted by him in the name of the party are null and void”.
The Abia State chapter of the ADC therefore urged members of the public, security agencies, relevant authorities and stakeholders to treat any statements, activities and actions associated with Obinna with regards to State ADC, as not only false, but mischievous and deceptive.
Accordingly, the Abia State ADC reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to the David Mark-led national leadership, and also expressed its commitment to the unity, discipline and respect for the leadership of the ADC at all levels.
