Actors Guild Blasts Military Over Lekki Shooting
BY EVELYN DADU, ABUJA – National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ejezie Emeka Rollas, has condemned the Military attack on unarmed youths at the Lekki Toll gate on Tuesday night, describing it as a dastardly act against innocent citizens.
According to him, the ugly incident is capable of escalating widespread retaliatory actions while also triggering destruction of lives and properties in an unimaginable magnitude as already being witnessed in some parts of Lagos.
He however urged the protesting youths that as responsible leaders of tomorrow they owe it a duty to ensure continued survival of Nigeria as one indivisible and peaceful nation.
The AGN President said it is quite unfortunate how the peaceful protests against police brutality and all forms of misrule was hijacked, sabotaged and crystallized into wanton killings of unarmed youths and destruction of public as well as private property.
A statement issued in Abujaon Wednesday by Rollas extended his heartfelt condolence to the families of those who lost their lives, even as he prayed for the injured and traumatized to recover quick.
He said government must come up with quick resolutions to end the grievances of Nigerian youths, especially #ENDTOSARS and other reform measures as articulated by the aggrieved youths.
While urging the youths to shun all forms of violence, he said it is important for them to respect the laws of the land where curfews have been declared and end the protest now.
For the AGN President also challenged the Guild’s youthful members to remain calm and obey all security directives ordered by the government, adding that AGN members must avoid film sets and locations for now in the face of the current curfews already imposed in some states.
Rollas said Nigerian youths must urgently re-strategize and evolve plans aimed at achieving their demands, noting that violence has never achieved any positive results for any society.
He insisted that negotiations and strategic plans are the best known approach to arrive at solutions, warning that; “We must not pay with our lives and sacrifice the blood of our innocent youths.”
