BY BABA AHMED LAFIA – The peace meeting between former Governor Abdullahi Adamu and Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa state has ended in deadlock with no headway achieved by the Council of chiefs in the state, who were conveners of the meeting.
The Emirs that met behind closed doors with Senator Adamu and Governor Al-makura following the political difference between the two chieftains whose differences is threatening to tear the state apart.
The meeting which took place at the Government Housen Lafia, failed to yield any fruitful result as both leaders resisted every attempt to get them reached an agreement.
A close source at the meeting told Forefront News that the meeting which was at the instance of the Council of Chiefs that earlier met on Wednesday were left disappointed as no truce was reached.
It was gathered that Al-Makura, who wanted to use the meeting to further seek support for his choice of candidates across the state ahead of 2019 met resistance as the emirs rebuffed him and urge him to first maintain peace across the state as the number one citizen.
One of those who accompanied Senator Adamu to the meeting raised observation that as the meeting was ongoing, officials of the state government and close aides to the governor are in Keffi in a rally for the commissioner for Education, Aliyu Tijjani, who Al-makura is believed to be sponsoring to challenge
Adamu.
Although Adamu, who refused to comment on most issues, however assured the meeting that he will continue to ensure peace in the state and success of President Muhammadu Buhari
At the end of the meeting, the two political heavy weight in the state refused to speak to the press as they walk away after a group picture with the traditional rulers.
The relationship between Adamu and Al-Makura went sour after Al-Makura set up a committee to probe former Governor Adamu 8 years in office because he refused to support Al-Makura’s choice of
candidate for 2019 governorship elections in the state.
