The African Democratic Congress (ADC), has vehemently rejected what it described as the teleguided and skewed interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The ADC pointedly accused Professor Joash Amupitan-led INEC of yielding to political pressure amid the party’s growing influence, stressing that the electoral commission’s press statement is full of contradictions that fly in the face of both facts and reason.
INEC had, in a statement on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, its National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, stated that its actions regarding the ADC leadership dispute were based on the Court of Appeal judgment.
But, the ADC, in a statement by Bolaji Abdullahi, its National Publicity Secretary, dismissed INEC’s position, stressing that it is completely inconsistent with both facts and logic.

In the words of Abdullahi; “We reject INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling. We knew that INEC was being pressured by a government that has become jittery from the ADC’s rising momentum even in the face of its relentless assault on all opposition parties”.
Abdullahi further said that the ADC had earlier stated that the nation’s electoral body was being put under severe pressure by the ruling government which became unsettled by the Party’s rising political momentum.
The ADC specifically noted that INEC’s position which it communicated in a statement is contradictory and clearly misleading.
ADC said; “INEC’s press statement is full of contradictions that fly in the face of both facts and reason. We shall clarify these contradictions for all to see.
“What is clear, however, is that INEC has caved to pressure and has chosen to side with the government against the Nigerian people,” it stressed.
Abdullahi said that the ADC is currently reviewing its options in response to the development and would make its next steps known in due course.
He said; “We are currently reviewing our options, and we shall make these known soon”.
Abdullahi, however, urged party members and supporters across the country to remain calm and await further directives.
“We call on our members and all Nigerians to remain steadfast as they await further directives.
“Nigeria is rising. ADC is rising,” Abdullahi said.
