…Says, “we have evidence, we know how he moves around”
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has said that the characteristics and extent of the crisis in the party point to the direction that it is being driven by interests that transcend mere internal disputes among party members.
This was as he pointedly said that the current turmoil in the opposition party is not accidental, but the outcome of intentional meddling intended to disrupt its framework.
Atiku, who stated these during a chat with DW Hausa, specifically noted that ADC’s recent surge in popularity rendered it vulnerable to those who felt threatened by its expanding power.
In what appeared a veiled reference to Nafiu Bala Gombe, the self acclaimed factional chairman of the ADC, Atiku expressed concerns at the sudden rise in resources and security reportedly provided him (Bala), stressing that these developments are unusual for normal party conduct.
According to Atiku; “This person seems to be gaining unusual benefits that are atypical of someone in their role within the organization. It is clear it has possible external backing.
“How is it possible for someone claiming to be the party chairman to suddenly receive security, cars, and housing? “This clearly indicates external involvement. We have proof. We know where he lives and we watch his movements, almost like a governor,” he stated.
The former Vice President further said that the ADC’s growing acceptance among the Nigerian populace, attracted attention from outside forces looking to hinder its advancement, adding however that despite the obstacles facing the party, its supporters remain steadfast.
In the words of Atiku; “Nigerians have continued to show trust in the ADC and have demonstrated unwavering support, even amidst internal conflicts that could have diminished its standing”.
The ADC chieftain emphasized that specific occurrences within the party raised alarms about potential external intervention.
