A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, remanded a 40-year-old Law student of the University of Abuja, Monday Goodluck, in Kuje Correctional Centre.

Goodluck was remanded by the court on the allegations of having raped a 100-level Medicine and Surgery student.

The court presided over by Justice M.S. Idris ordered the remand of Goodluck after rejecting an oral bail application from defence counsel Samson Francis.

Justice Idris directed that a written bail application should be filed and served on the prosecution.

The trial judge then adjourned the case to June 9 for further hearing.

Goodluck was arraigned by the Nigeria police on two counts of rape and causing physical injury.

The prosecution counsel, Alexander Agbo told the court that Goodluck allegedly assaulted the student at his residence at about 11 p.m. on March 25 after luring her with a false claim of securing a NELFUND loan.

When the charges were read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecution further told the court that Goodluck caused physical injury and attempted to silence the victim by shoving his fingers into her mouth.

The prosecution listed the offences under Sections 1 and 2 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.
