Anambra Deserves Better Than Mediocres ― Soludo Insists
- November 6 guber poll beckons
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for the November 6, 2021 governorship election, Professor Chukwuma Soludo insists mediocrity cannot be tolerated in the Anambra State government house.
He said the state deserves better than leaving its governance in the hands of mediocres who have nothing good to offer its hardworking and industrious people going forward.
In a veiled mockery of some contestants from other political parties, the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor said the South East State had passed the stage of having its administration handled by people flaunting only West African School Certificate (WASC) as their educational credentials.
Inaugurating his Campaign Council in Awka, the Anambra State capital, Prof Soludo also slammed what he described as the seemingly endless ‘procurement’ of court rulings from outside the State, noting that such action was merely poor scriptwriting that cannot stop APGA in Anambra.
For him, ‘Anambra is APGA and APGA is Anambra’, and it is a sad commentary that people with only WAEC certificates as their qualification are aspiring to govern a state like Anambra.
He said the state had outgrown being led by those whose low educational qualification would not allow them to think globally and out of the box.
Prof Soludo’s comments followed the list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), indicating that many of the candidates addressed as ‘Dr’ presented only WAEC as their qualification.
On the numerous legal battles confronting his candidacy, Prof Soludo accused some people of seeking to destroy APGA, which by the grace of God, would not happen, adding that; “The only thing they say they want to do is to come and conquer; to come and write results and bring the Army, Let me say it to the world that all these things they say are orchestrated to stop APGA.
“They believe that the only way they can take Anambra is to remove APGA on the way. The litigation they are having everywhere is to sponsor a mole to come into APGA and see if they can destabilize the party.”
Further assuring that APGA is one big united family in Anambra state, the former CBN boss said; “There is no faction in APGA. APGA remains one indivisible party and our target is to win all the 326 wards of the state. They want to come in by force, but God said no and we want to thank the judiciary for rising up to the occasion.
“I believe the judiciary will begin to call some people to order. This election is taking place in Anambra and it is about the future of the people of Anambra and for somebody to go for screening in APGA, pay the necessary fees to the APGA national chairman, go for screening and lose and then appoint his own chairman and go to Jigawa to say that this is now the national chairman, is absurd.
“Thank God for the Court of Appeal and we also pray that the Supreme Court will do the needful because this is a country of the rule of law and not for brigands. Anambra will continue to move forward.”
The Professor of Economics urged the Anambra people to work hard towards achieving the task ahead, saying the most important work would be done at the ward level for the party to emerge victorious at the November polls.
“We are going to contest for every vote in every family, in every church, in every market, In every street. I thank INEC immensely for doing the needful because the entire state was in a mourning mood all this while. We thank God because nobody can battle the Lord. I promise that under our leadership, our state will continue to move forward”, the APGA flag-bearer said
In his remarks, the APGA National Chairman, Chief Victor Oye described the Party as ‘indestructible’, boasting that it will win the election because nobody can wrestle with the Lord.
“Anybody who fights APGA will be destroyed. We must call a spade a spade. What happened at the Jigawa High Court was a travesty of justice and it will never stand. God brought Soludo to succeed Obiano and he will succeed Obiano successfully”, Oye said.
Meanwhile, with about 4,200 members drawn from all spheres of life, the Soludo’s Campaign Council is headed by the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu
