BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – A coalition of women groups in Anambra state on Monday endorsed the candidature of former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, ahead of the November 18, 2017 governorship election in the state.
Chidoka is contesting on the platform of the United Progressive Party (UPP).
The women, who were in Obosi, Chief Chidoka’s hometown on Monday for a solidarity visit, said the endorsement was a product of very wide consultations and extensive appraisal of all the aspirants in the governorship race.
Leader of the group, Lady Oge Agu, said apart from Chief Chidoka’s experience, proven capacity and track record of performance and integrity in public service, the women’s decision on whom to back was also informed by his effort in championing the course of the ordinary people as well as his respect and value for women.
Lady Agu said though other aspirants are also qualified in the sense that they are Anambra citizens, none of them rivaled Chief Chidoka in character, capacity, record of performance and sense of duty in public service.
She further said it remains on record that Chief Chidoka made Anambra state very proud with his performance as the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), where he turned around an outfit that was on the verge of being scrapped for low performance, into a world class agency, noting that they are confident that he would in the same vein deliver as governor of Anambra state.
According to her; “We mothers and daughters in Anambra believe in you. We believe in your character, capacity and sense of duty. We have confidence in your ability to deliver based on your proven track record of performance in public service and we are assured that you would not only live up to expectations, but also be a good role model for the next generation in our state.”
The women group also commended Chidoka for the respect and value he placed on women, which he demonstrated by being the first aspirant to appoint a female as campaign spokesperson, a signal that Anambra women would be accorded their rightful place under his administration.
Addressing the women, Chidoka assured them of his unflinching commitment to not only turn around the fortunes of Anambra state, but also to run a transparent and all-inclusive government that would redirect State resources for the overall good of the ordinary people.
Chidoka, who is currently on tour of his campaign offices and structures in the 326 electoral wards across the state, had a brief stop-over at the Obosi Town Hall to further appreciate a gathering of women supporters before continuing with the tour.
