- Police will deploy 45,000 officers for electoral duty – IGP
BY ONYEKACHUKWU IBEZIM –Candidates and political parties participating in the Saturday, 8th November 2025 Anambra State governorship election have promised to be of good behaviour before, during and after the exercise.
The pledge, contained in the peace accord signed on Monday by the stakeholders, expressed their commitment to a peaceful, orderly campaign and hitch-free election process.
The signing ceremony took place at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Awka, the state capital, under the watchful eyes of the National Peace Committee (NPC).
This is as political stakeholders expressed confidence that the peace pact represents a key step at building mutual trust, harmony and collective ownership of the electoral process in the State.
Gracing the ceremony were all political party leaders, candidates, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Royal Fathers, Community Leaders, and representatives of security agencies among others.
Addressing the forum, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, stressed the importance of tolerance, respect for democratic values and non-violence before, during, and after the poll.
IGP Egbetokun, represented by the Deputy Inspector-General in charge of Operations at Force Headquarters, Abuja, Ben Okolo, said the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and other sister security agencies are fully ready to ensure a credible, smooth and violence-free election come Saturday.
While pledging that the Police will remain neutral and professional in carrying out their electoral duties, IGP Egbetokun praised the Police leadership in Anambra State for their proactive engagement and peace-advocacy across the state.
The participating parties and candidates pledged their honour to uphold non-violence, to conduct their campaigns responsibly and to respect the electoral process and outcomes.
It is on record that the NPC, which organises the peace accord signing, has always played a key role in mobilising and extracting candidates, political parties, INEC and security agencies’ commitment to peaceful contests in past elections across the country.
Meanwhile, ahead of Saturday’s poll, the Police boss disclosed that 45,000 officers would be deployed to Anambra State to safeguard the poll, drawing from police commands across the country.
