Anambra: PDP Vows To Win Guber Poll
BY RAPHAEL ONYEKACHUKWU, ENUGU – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vowed to win the forthcoming governorship election, following the setting up of a reconciliation committee to resolve the crisis rocking its Anambra state chapter.
National Chairman of the PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who announced the resolution of the national leadership and Anambra State PDP stakeholders’ meeting held at Nike-Lake Hotel, Enugu, on Monday, described the parley as a huge success.
According to the PDP Chairman, party members in the state have resolved to come together as one family and address their problems in order to re-position it for electoral victory during the gubernatorial polls.
He said that two issues identified as the party’s major problems in Anambra state were imposition of candidates on the people by the National Secretariat and manipulation of delegates’ list.
Senator Sheriff promised that PDP, under his leadership, would resolve these problems, just as he vowed that the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra will be won by the Party.
He also pledged to abide by the will of delegates to the forthcoming primaries in Anambra to ensure that the party wins at the polls.
Deputy National Chairman of the Party, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, had earlier said that four state governors, including Enugu and Ebonyi states are currently in support of the PDP’s National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff.
He said both governors, who were represented by their deputies; Lolo Cecilia Ezilo and Barrister Kelechi Igwe, respectively, are effectively with Sheriff, stressing that the meeting would resolve all the crisis bedeviling the party in Anambra state.
Also speaking on the reconciliation moves, a PDP chieftain in Anambra state, Chief Chris Uba, said the crisis rocking the party was foisted on it from Abuja. “Anytime election is coming, the party from Abuja will impose people who are not known to members of the party in the state. They always ambush members of the party in the state when election comes”, he said
