Anambra Poll: Gov Obiano Protests Removal Of His ADC
BY AMOS DUNIA, ABUJA – Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has protested the withdrawal of his Police Aide Camp (ADC) by the Police high command, stressing that the action was totally uncallef for and unacceptable.
Obiano, who made the protest at a Forum organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday in Awka for the governorship contestants and other stake holders said the fact that he is seeking re-election has not taken away the fact that he remains a governor and the Chief Security Officer of the state.
Obiona said: “I woke up on Tuesday morning to find that my ADC had been directed by the Police High Command to vacate me without any communication with me as the Chief Security Officer of the state.
“The directive and action of the police has put my life in danger. This singular act is unacceptable and unfair treatment to my person and office.
“My standing for re-election did not remove the fact that I am the Chief Security Officer of the state.
Responding, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Idris said the withdrawal of the ADC to the governor was to prevent past experience recorded by the police during elections.
Idris said the police recorded a situation whereby the military caught an ADC to an unnamed governor escorting a vehicle loaded with arms on Election Day.
The IGP also said that the Police has equally withdrawn all the policemen attached to political appointees, Local Government Chairmen and others in Anambra until after the election.
He therefore assured; “The ADC to the governor will be returned to him early Sunday morning after the governorship election on Saturday November 18, 2017
The IGP said that the Police Force has deployed 26, 000 personnel, 300 vehicles, three helicopters and 15 gunboats for the conduct of the An ambra governorship election.
He said the deployment of policemen and other security personnel is not to cause panic, but to give the people the needed protection and assurance of a peaceful election.
