APC Big Enough For All Lovers Of Nigeria – Sen Barau
- Hails sacked Kano Commissioner for joining party
- As defection storm rages in NNPP
BY IBRAHIM ABDULLAHI – Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin says the ruling “All Progressives Congress (APC) is big enough to accommodate all lovers of the country”
Senator Barau made the declaration while welcoming the immediate past Kano State Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Hon Abbas Sani Abbas into the APC family in Kano.
He also maintained that the defection storm currently hitting the ruling New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano will continue because the APC is ready to receive and work with all those wishing the State and Nigeria well.
Hon Abbas, a serving Commissioner in the Governor Abass Yusuf cabinet until last month, had announced his decision to dump the NNPP for APC during a visit to the Deputy Senate President in Kano on Friday night.
While receiving Hon Abbas, alongside the APC Chairman in Kano State, Prince Abdullahi Abbas (Ɗan Sarki, Jikan Sarki), and other party leaders, Senator Barau described Hon Abbas as a dedicated grassroots mobiliser.
Barau, who is the First Deputy Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, assured the former Commissioner of the APC’s unwavering commitment to building a better future for the people of Kano State and all Nigerians.
According to him, the APC will continue to promote the values of good governance, inclusivity, and service to humanity through the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda”
Speaking after making announcing his decision to join the APC at the Deputy Senate President’s residence, Hon Abbas Sani Abbas pledged to work towards the success of the party across the 44 LGAs of Kano State and beyond.
Forefront News notes that there has been turbulence within the NNPP’s in the past six months, with many leaders of the Party from across the 44 local government areas of Kano State dumping the Party and the Kwankwsiyya Movement alongside thousands of their supporters.
In what political watchers tagged the ‘Barau Tsunami’, the defection galore has seen thousands of NNPP members abandoning their popular red caps, the symbol of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano State, and embracing the APC’s broom.
Trouble within the NNPP’s fold boiled over following calls by some Party’s leaders urging the State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to firmly take charge of governance in the state.
In the wake of that call, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr Abdullahi Bichi, and five commissioners, including Hon Abbas Sani Abbas, were immediately relieved of their appointment last December.
