APC Gets Acting Spokesman, Nabena
- Obeys court order restraining Issa-Onilu
BY VICTOR BUORO, ABUJA – In what appeared as deft moves towards amicable crisis resolution and reconciliation of aggrieved parties within its fold, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday asked its Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yekini Nabena to take over the National Publicity Secretary office on acting capacity.
Consequently, the substantive occupant of the office, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu will no longer serve as the APC’s spokesperson for now until the Court order restraining him from duty is formally vacated
The development is in reaction to a Sokoto High Court order that last week restrained the party from appointing or electing “Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu or any member” into its top positions except through a National Convention.
A statement signed by Nabena, the deputy Spokesperson, said following an understanding reached with Onilu, he (Nabena) would act pending the time the substantive National Publicity Secretary will properly sort out the pending issues in court
Nabena stated that; “APC is a law abiding party and as leaders of the party we must be seen doing the right thing at all time, including respecting the order of the court.”
“In lieu of this, Mallam Onilu has began the process of vacating the order of the Sokoto High Court restraining him, but pending the time this will be done I will act in his position.
“Unlike the former ruling party, APC has high regard for the judiciary and we must be seen at all times practicing what we preach,” he said.
Nabena, who sought the understanding of APC supporters in appreciating the party’s position, urged the media and other stakeholders to cooperate with him in carrying out the current assignment.
The acting spokesman assured media representatives of prompt responses to enquiries and clarifications while working on maintaining mutual relationship and understanding between the public and the APC.
In the heat of FCT High Court ordered suspension of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the APC National Chairman, the embattled National Vice Chairman – North West of the party, Barr. Inuwa Abdulkadir had, in a motion exparte dated March 13, 2020 and filed before Justice Mohammed Mohammed of Sokoto High Court, sought an order of the court to restrain the APC from appointing Issa-Onilu into any substantive position within the ruling party.
