…Says Nasarawa State deserves fair deal
BY AHMED TUKUR, LAFIA – Following brewing crisis of dominance in the All Progressives Congress (APC) over which of the parties that merged to form the APC should produce the next National Chairman of the Party, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state, has demanded special recognition for members of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
There is a brewing crisis of confidence between factions within the APC that formed the party in 2014 with the purpose of wrestling power from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2015.
The political camps within the APC in cold war over the National Chairmanship position of the party include, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and a faction of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)-led by former governor of Imo State, Mr Rochas Okorocha
Speaking during the All Progressive Congress (APC) registration exercise in his home town of Gudi in Akwanga Local Government Area, Governor Sule said that Nigerians should be grateful to the CPC for being the party that entered into alliance for the present government in power.
The CPC was the party that took President Muhammadu Buhari to merger with Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura, who was the only governor on the platform of the CPC which led to the eventual emergence of Buhari as the presidential candidate of the APC.
However, some power blocs with the APC are of the view that members of the defunct CPC should be allowed to produce the next national chairman of the party.
Governor Sule said: “If Nigeria will be kind to CPC, Nasarawa state should be the state that should be looked at first. That way, members will be kind to the CPC. That is my message to Nigeria today”.
Already Senator Abdullahi Adamu, a former governor of Nasarawa State on the platform of the PDP and the immediate past former governor of the State, Senator Umaru Tanko Almakura, who was the only governor on the platform of the CPC are believed to be campaigning underground to contest for National chairmanship of the APC.
Governor Sule said that Nasarawa state most especially needs special acknowledgement from Nigerians that ensure that CPC was alive to bring the present administration to power.
He further said; “Only Nasarawa State was used for the alliance that formed the APC today. Tanko Almakura has made Nasarawa state proud by being the only one who presented a party to form the alliance”.
He particularly thanked Almakura for ensuring that the state was part of the history that brought the present federal government into power, adding that Senator Almakura was the only CPC governor with President Muhammadu Buhar as member during the merger.
