BY COBHAM NSA – It is cheering news of improved earnings for the three tiers of government as they shared a total sum of N1.681 trillion, being April 2025 Federation Account Revenue.
Rising from the May 2025 Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) meeting held in Abuja, the Federal Government, States and Local Government Councils shared the quoted amount comprising distributable statutory revenue of N962.882 billion and distributable Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue of N598.077 billion.
Also part reflected as part of the N1.681 trillion total distributable revenue are Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) revenue of N38.862 billion and Exchange Difference N81.407 billion.
From available records, N2,848.721 trillion was available as total gross revenue in the month of April 2025 while total deduction for cost of collection was N101.051 billion with total transfers, interventions, refunds and savings amounting to N1066.442 billion.
A FAAC communiqué further indicated that gross statutory revenue of N2,084.568 trillion that accrued in April 2025 was higher by N365.595 billion than the N1,718.973 trillion received in the month of March 2025
Additionally, the sum of N642.265 billion came in from the Value Added Tax (VAT) in April 2025, representing about N4.647 billion higher than the March 2025 accruals of N637.618 billion
The communiqué explained that from the N1,681.228 trillion total distributable revenue, the Federal Government got N565.307 billion with the sum of N556.741 billion going to the State Governments.
While Local Government Councils got N406.627 billion, the sum of N152.553 billion, being 13 percent of mineral revenue, was shared to the benefiting State as derivation revenue.
On the N962.882 billion distributable statutory revenue, the communiqué stated that the Federal Government got N431.307 billion; the State Governments received N218.765 billion; the Local Government Councils received N168.659 billion while N144. 151 billion was shared to the benefiting States as 13 percent mineral
derivation revenue
Also from the N598.077 billion VAT revenue, the Federal Government received N89.712 billion, the State Governments got N299.039 billion and the Local Government Councils went home with N209.327 billion.
Distribution from the N38.862 billion Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL) indicated that N5.829 billion was received by the Federal Government, the State Governments got N19.431 billion while N13.602 billion went to the Local Government Councils’ coffers
Similarly, accruals from the N81.407 billion Exchange Difference saw the Federal Government receiving N38.459 billion; the State Governments got N19.507 billion; the Local Government Councils got N15.039 billion, while the sum of N8.402 billion went to the benefiting States as 13 percent of mineral
derivation revenue.
On a general note, the April 2025 figure showed that earnings from the Petroleum Profit Tax(PPT), Oil and Gas Royalty, Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL), Value Added Tax (VAT), Excise Duty, Import Duty and CET Levies increased significantly while Companies Income Tax (CIT) recorded considerable drop in accruals.
