Arsenal’s Title Hopes Up In Smoke
- Lose 0-3 to Brighton at Emirates Stadium
- As Man City extend lead, beat Everton 3-0
On a night that Arsenal’s premiership title hopes went up in smoke inside the Emirates Stadium, the defending champions, Manchester City were on song increasing their haul to 85 points from 35 matches.
Quite unexpectedly, the Gunners saw their faint title chances all but vanished with an embarrassing 3-0 home loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
And it was Manager Mikel Arteta who caught a pathetic figure on the sideline as his men crashed to one of their heaviest home defeat at the hands of the Seagulls to gift the Premier League trophy to City on a platter.
After seeing the Cityzens win handsomely at Goodison Park, beating Everton 3-0 earlier in the day, the Gunners knew that to keep up the pressure on Pep Guardiola’s side meant they cannot afford to slip up.
Unfortunately, Julio Enciso’s close-range header early in the second half and two late goals from Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan were enough to earn the visitors a deserved three points as they gave their own European hopes a huge boost.
The defeat leaves Arsenal four points behind City with just two games to play. Guardiola’s side still have a game in hand and they will retain the title next weekend if either Arsenal lose at Nottingham Forest on Saturday or City beat Chelsea the following day.
However, the weekend actually belonged to Norwegian international and City striker, Erling Haaland, who scored his 36 goals of the season and still counting!

The season’s leading goal scorer in Europe celebrated the achievement of adding to his Premier League tally against Everton by scribbling over commemorative football boots.
After scoring the second goal in his side’s 3-0 triumph over Everton, Haaland, who was wearing special boots with the number 35 on them to mark his record for most goals in a single Premier League campaign, quickly updated his tally to 36 on the boots.
The in-form goal poacher simply crossed out the five written on the boots and replaced it with the number six.
Having so far scored an awesome 52 goals in all competitions in his debut season at City, Haaland will be hoping to keep things going as he looks to fire the reigning English champions to another Premier League title success.
Guardiola’s team are top of the table with just three games left but the Manager reminded their supporters that they are still two wins away from claiming the crown.
For Haaland and his co-stars, the focus is on securing a place in the Champions League final when they take on Real Madrid in the second leg of their semi-final tie on Wednesday, May 17 at the Etihad Stadium.
On their part, Arsenal will battling to recover from this huge setback as they take on Nottingham Forest in six days’ time, hoping that miracles still do happen.
