Atiku Visits Maiduguri, Donates N100m For Flood Relief Efforts

Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has made a donation of N100 million to assist the victims of the devastating Maiduguri flooding.

In addition to his donation, Atiku called upon his network of friends and associates to contribute further to the relief efforts.

These were contained in a statement on Sunday, September 15, 2024, by Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to Atiku in a press statement, saying that the gesture followed a heartfelt visit by the Waziri Adamawa to Maiduguri, where he extended his deepest sympathies to the state government and those affected by this catastrophe.

The Maiduguri flood displaced an estimated 500,000 individuals and wrought widespread destruction, thus, the need for an acute humanitarian emergency.

The statement said that Atiku’s generous gesture is a testament to his unwavering dedication to humanitarian efforts.

Ibe emphasized that the gesture mirrors Atiku’s previous humanitarian initiatives, notably during the COVID-19 pandemic, when he mobilized support from his circle to address urgent needs.

Th statement further said that upon his arrival at Maiduguri airport, Atiku, accompanied by family and close associates, was received with warmth by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno (SAN) representing Borno North and Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan (SAN) representing Borno Central and later paid a significant courtesy visit on Governor Babagana Zulum at the Government House, where the donation to the flood relief fund was announced.

Governor Zulum expressed heartfelt gratitude for Atiku’s compassionate visit, saying; “The people of Borno deeply appreciate this show of solidarity.”

Ibe also said that Atiku’s generous support not only highlights his deep humanitarian commitment but, also serves as a powerful beacon of hope and solidarity during these trying times.
