BY UBON EKANEM, CALABAR – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South Federal constituency in the 2023 general elections, Rt Hon Essien Ayi has put smiles on the faces of his constituents with empowerment packages worth over 10 million Naira.
Ayi, who personally supervised the empowerment items distribution to the beneficiaries, said the empowerment programme is part of his electoral campaign pact with the people.
The former Chairman of Calabar South Local Government Council commended them for their unwavering loyalty and support for him and the party over the years despite all odds.
He assured that there are lofty plans on ground for a mega empowerment programme designed for the greater number of people across the federal constituency.
Ayi said what has been presented so far is only a tip of the iceberg for those in Calabar South Local Government Area as there are more goodies in store for the people of his constituency.
The Lawmaker, popularly called ABC, therefore appealed PDP members in the state to remain resilient and steadfast in their support for the Party as more goodies await them.
According to him, the PDP’s chances of reclaiming the political leadership of the state come 2023 are quite bright and therefore demands hard work and commitment by all stakeholders to rescue the State from ruins.
Items distributed by the lawmaker at the occasion include Tricycles (Keke), Mini buses, Sewing machines and Welding equipment. Others are motorcycles, grinding machines, and hairdressing equipment among others.
Speaking on behalf of other beneficiaries, a party stalwart from Ward 5, Mr Efiom Etim lauded the lawmaker’s caring approach for the people, noting that he has always kept in touch with his constituents.
Mr Etim noted that the people of Calabar south are lucky to have a political leader like Rt Hon Essien Ayi, describing him as a political figure who understands what his constituents desire and how to satisfy their yearnings.
The 65-years-old Ayi is currently the longest serving legislator from Cross River State. He was first elected to the Green Chamber in 2003 and will be seeking a return ticket for his fifth (5th) tenure in the Federal House of Representatives.
