Former Vanguard Newspaper Bureau Chief in Kaduna, Luka Binniyat is now a free man after meeting all the bail conditions on Thursday.

A statement by the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna State Council, Comrade Adamu Yusuf said Luka ‘gained his freedom at exactly 12:50 pm.’

According to the statement, the journalist has already re-united with his family after over three months incarceration in prison.

He said those at the prison to receive him were Barrister James Kanyip, his defence lawyer; and the Kaduna State NUJ Chairman, Adamu Yusuf, who is also the third surety. Also at the prison were his brother Barrister Binniyat Thomas, and the two other sureties among others.

Luka was in prison for 96 days from where he has been appearing in court before his bail was perfected following a review of the bail conditions by Justice Sukola on Monday, October 9, 2017.

The Chairman’s statement, which expressed gratitude to all that supported the ‘free Luka Binniyat’s campaign’, stated thus: “On behalf of NUJ Kaduna Council, I will like to appreciate all those that contributed in one way or the other to see that Luka Binniyat is out of prison.”
