Bandits on Sunday morning set free 28 students of the Bethel Baptist Secondary School in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

A total of 121 students of Bethel Baptist Secondary School in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state were abducted from their hotels by bandits on July 8.

The Nigeria Police announced some days ago that its personnel rescued three of the students at a location also in Chikun Local Government Area and were thereafter taken to a police medical facility for medical checks.

The 28 students were found inside the Tsoho Gaya Forest in Chikun Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Sunday.

Forefront News gathered that the bandits may have released the 28 students following the payment of ransom and not that the escaped or were rescued by security agencies. It was however not clear if the ransom paid was by individual parents or by the school.

The bandits after abducting the students demanded a ransom of ₦60 million for their release.

According to UNICEF, mass abductions of students from their schools have soared this year in Nigeria with almost 1,000 students kidnapped and most of the students are usually released after negotiations while many that are yet to meet up with the terms of the negotiation for ransom are still being held in forest hideouts like the Bethel pupils.

The list of missing from Bethel students makes heartbreaking reading as 121 names had the oldest being 19 years old while the youngest is just 10 just as majority of them are under 15 years.
