- 12 others sustain injuries, 3 vehicles involved
BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – It was a black Sunday in Bauchi State as not fewer than 12 lives were lost in an accident involving three vehicles.
Also, 12 other persons sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident that occurred at Lanzai village in Darazo Local Government Area of the State.
A Road traffic report sheet released late Sunday evening by the State Command of the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) revealed that the accident occurred at about 13:17, and was reported to the Commission at about 13:26 while the personnel arrived the scene at about 13:42.
According to FRSC’s report, the unfortunate incident, which took place along the ever busy Bauchi-Potiskum highway, involved a Toyota Hummer bus belonging to Borno Express and two (2) Opel Vectra salon cars, all commercial vehicles.
Two of the vehicles involved had registration numbers JJN67AE; and MAG418ZR while names of the drivers could not be ascertained immediately during the rescue operation.
The incident sheet indicated that the probable cause of the accident was over speeding and wrong overtaking by the drivers which resulted in head-on collision and the vehicles eventually veering off the main road into the Bush.
The 12 include three (3) male adults, six (6) gemale adults and three (3) male children while the 12 dead persons are nine (9) male adults, one (1) aemale Adult, one (1) male child and one (1) female child.
The FRSC reports indicate that the total number of people involved in the accident was 24 comprising 12 male adults, seven (7) female adults, four (4) male children and one (1) female child.
Both the injured and the dead were evacuated to General Hospital, Potiskum for medical attention and deposits at the mortuary.
