BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – The First Lady of Bauchi State, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed has been turbaned as the First Sarauniyar (Queen) Bauchi by the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu.
This is as the Emir of Bauchi said that the honor is in recognition of the outstanding contributions of the Hajiy Aisha Mohammed towards the wellbeing of women and children particularly the vulnerable groups across the state.
Emir Adamu enjoined the first Sarauniyar Bauchi to consider the opportunity as a challenge to rẹdouble her efforts at assisting women with various empowerment programmes to better their livelihood.
The Emir further said; “After wider consultation with critical stakeholders, Bauchi Emirate Council found you worthy of this important title. We know that giving you this is like giving to the entire women of Bauchi state.”
In her acceptance speech immediately after the turbaning, Hajiya Aisha Mohammed assured the Emir of being a good Ambassador of the Emirate just as she promised to come up with robust empowerment programmes as part of her interventions for the welfare of youths and women in the state.
The Sarauniyar also said that already she has expanded the scope of the programmes of Almuhibbah Foundation which she founded in the area of improving the living standards of people especially the vulnerable groups in the society by providing them with skills and starter packs to be self-reliant.
She said; “I want to assure the Emir that I will justify the confidence reposed in me. Insha Allah, I will not fail the Emirate and indeed the entire women of Bauchi State because of their support to us”.
“The gifts we distributed here is to support the beneficiaries in appreciation for their outstanding contributions towards ensuring the success of our programmes at both Almuhibbah Foundation and in my office as the First Lady of the State”.
In appreciation for the honour done to her by the Emir of Bauchi, the 1st Sarauniyar Bauchi donated 8 motorcycles and distributed special gifts to selected orphans and vulnerable children.
The Sarauniyar, who described the traditional title as a moral booster, pledged to assist her husband, Governor Bala Mohammed to succeed particularly in the area of women and youth empowerment.
The Wakilin Bauchi, Alhaji Adamu Duguri, who spoke on behalf of the Mohammed Duguri family of the celebrant, expressed gratitude to the Emir for finding the First Lady worthy to be given the traditional title of the First Sarauniyar Bauchi.
Duguri expressed confidence that the new Sarauniyar Bauchi will reciprocate the gesture by working not only for the development of the emirate but the state in general.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who holds the traditional title of Kauran Bauchi and recently the new Jagaban Katagum was represented at the occasion by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mohammed Sabiu Baba.
The historical turbaning ceremony was attended by the Deputy Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, Honorable Dallami Ahmed Kawule, wife of the Deputy Governor, wife of the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly, and Commissioners alongside their wives, women appointees and women groups as well as other well-wishers.
