Bauchi Lawmaker Procures, Distributes N150m Hospital Equipment, Other Items

BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – A Member of the House of Representatives representing Toro Federal Constituency in Bauchi state, Umar Muda Lawal has procured and distributed items worth over N150 million for his constituents.

The items include hospital equipment slated for distribution to 18 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the Constituency to promote and improve healthcare services delivery to the people as well as empower them as part of his constituency projects.

Presenting the equipment to Toro Local Government Council officials on Friday, February 19, 2021, the Federal Legislator said they were procured as part of fulfilling his election campaign promises to facilitate the improvement of healthcare service delivery in the area.

Umar Lawal, represented by his Director, Research and Planning, Alhaji Suleiman Usman Sarkin Malaman Toro, listed the materials to include: 90 different hospitals equipment such as hospital Beds; mattresses; Atrifusil; Ventilated fan; graduation medicine cup; motorcycle; and generators among others.

He urged the local government to ensure judicious distribution of all equipment to health facilities across the local government for effective healthcare service delivery.

Lawal however warned health workers in the area against diverting the equipment for their personal use as his office has set up different committees to monitor the utilization of the equipment at the grass root.

Other items distributed are: 400 Water pumping machines; 20 Sewing machines; 20 Grinding machines; 30 Keke NAPEP and 40 motorcycles.

Receiving the equipment, Executive Chairman of Toro Local Government, Alhaji Adamu Umar (Dan Yaro Geji) lauded the legislator for his kind gesture and efforts at enhancing health care service delivery at the grass root.

Umar, who pledged to ensure judicious distribution and use of the equipment by the PHCs, urged all politicians in the area to be united, irrespective of their political differences, in providing dividends of democracy to the people so that the history of the local government would remember them in future.

In his remarks at the event, Director, Primary HealthCare Department, Toro Local Government, Alhaji Suleiman Abdu Kirfi said the equipment were initially meant for six health facilities but had to be extended to about 19 due to the number of health facilities in the local government.

According to him, staff in the health facilities have been directed to ensure the equipment are protected against vandalisation, even as he urged Wards and Villages Development Committees to work round the clock in ensuring proper utilization of the equipment provided at their respective areas.

Chairman of APC in Toro Local Government Area, Alhaji Sha’aban Muh’d Rimi said the gesture was a landmark achievement and clear indication of good leadership of the member Umar Muda Lawal and APC representation.

According to him, more programmes are underway to bring sustainable development to the area and for the general public to accord more support to the legislator to help them succeed.
