BY ADEYEMI AKANJI, BAUCHI – Barring unforeseen circumstances, the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman may have to start counting his days as the number three political leader in the state.

It was gathered that but for the compulsory break forced on the House of Assembly as a result of the deadly Covid-19 disease outbreak, he would have been ousted by the 20 member All Progressives Congress that are still paying allegiance to the immediate past governor of the State, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulkadir Abubakar.

For now, the plan has been planned for action on resumption from the Covid-19 break.

Forefront News gathered that the planned impeachment of the Speaker is being remotely sponsored by the immediate past governor of the state, Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, who is believed not to be in support of the emergence of the Speaker thus still nudging grudges against him for refusing to take directives from him on how to destabilize the administration of Governor Bala Mohammed.

It was gathered that former Governor Abubakar, whose election petition suit against Governor Bala Mohammed was resolved in favour of the latter from the Tribunal, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court, held a closed door meeting last week Friday in Gombe with all the 20 APC members of the House.

The Gombe meeting, it was further gathered resolved to get the Speaker out of the way in order to bring Governor Bala Mohammed to his kneels and at the mercy of his predecessor.

The former Governor, Forefront News learnt pointedly told the APC legislators to return the former Speaker that served during his tenure, Hon. Kawuwa Shehu Damina to his position in line with party position and arrangement.

Some of the members are however believed not to be comfortable with the return of the former Speaker, who they perceived as too weak and subservient to manipulation.

Abubakar however insisted that it only the former Speaker that would be able to carry out the plan to frustrate the developmental plans of the PDP-led administration of Governor Bala Mohammed.

It was also gathered that Abubakar has given directive to the APC legislators to as a matter of necessity ensure that they woo the only member of the NNPP in the House, Hon Jamilu Umar Barade to their camp in order to increase their number and make the exercise easier.

When contacted by our correspondent at the Emir’s palace in Bauchi, the former Speaker, Hon. Damina refused to comment.

Similarly, efforts made to get the reaction of the Speaker, Hon. Abubakar Y. Sulaiman proved abortive as he did not pick his phone calls. However, his Media Aide, Ahmed Burra confirmed the situation and promised to get details across as soon as possible.
