Bendel Insurance Keeper, Umar Ahmad Jalingo, Dies In Gombe
- Succumbs to brief illness
Nigerian National League (NNL) clubside, Bendel Insurance of Benin, have announced the shocking death of their goalkeeper, Umar Ahmad Jalingo, who died in Gombe after a brief illness.
Before his untimely death, Umar Jalingo, aged 27, was hospitalized at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) in Gombe, where he was treated due to serious illness.
With the National League and football in Nigeria suspended due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Umar Jalingo had the chance to treat himself at the hospital.
According to reports, having gotten better later, the doctors examined and discharged the goalkeeper on Wednesday, May 27, to the warm embrace of his happy family members.
Unfortunately, Umar Jalingo died 24 hours later after failing to wake up from his sleep. The sad development threw his family and football fraternities in Nigeria into mourning.
A release by Bendel Insurance media officer, Kehinde Osagiede, described Umar Jalingo’s death as a great loss to the Benin-based club and the nation’s football family.
”It is unfortunate that we have lost one of our players, Umar Ahmad Jalingo, and the club are in pain and sorrow for the shocking demise as we pray that God should give the family, friends the fortitude to bear the loss,” Osagiede said in the statement.
Umar Ahmad Jalingo died at the age of 27 and the deceased left behind a wife, Hajia Zuleha and four children who are living in Gombe.
